Hospital night

by suleimanharuna

hospital night

Snore, snore

And long, ceaseless coughs

The smell of the ward

Barricading my thoughts

Drying, drying my eyes

To a headachy, night-long glare

I counted sheep, then stars

All, a countless waste

I sat, I lay, I sat again, brooding

Wither sleep?

I strolled I paced I played I prayed

My eyes couldn’t blink

I forced them shut

They forced open

I squeezed them shut

They yanked open

It’s all a barrage of coughs

And more coughs

And groans and yells

And even chit-chat

I wish I could sleep
